Think of it like running an engine with the wrong petrol. It either doesn’t work at all, or it does work, but poorly. Much of the human body is the same, and it’s impossible to test the diet pills long-term.

Are Diet Pills Safe?

Diet pills became famous in 1996, but do they work? Here is what the surgeon general had to say –

“Regular physical activity improves your health and well-being by improving the health-related quality of life. Reducing the risk of dying prematurely and promoting psychological well-being.”

There is no mention of the aid of any diet pills at all! Do diet pills work? Well, that would suggest that they do not.

Exercise Lowers Bad Feelings

Exercising lowers feelings of depression and anxiety, helping to build and maintain healthy bones, muscles, and joints. Helping with weight management, assisting in increasing HDL (good) cholesterol, and decreasing the risk of colon cancer.

It lowers blood pressure in people with hypertension. Reducing the risk of developing high blood pressure, aiding in the control and prevention of diabetes. It also decreases the risk of dying from coronary heart disease.” (“Physical Activity”)

The Correct Way?

Do Diet Pills Work? Not Really, No

We tell you what, do diet pills work, in most cases no. Well, in most cases, it is down to a lack of discipline why we do not lose weight. Trying to take the quick fix to a problem.

We would rather swallow one of these diet pills than put a hard hour’s worth of work down the local gym or home. Or, go for that jog. And if you don’t have the time for these then do exercise in your home.

Use What You Already Have For Exercise

As you well know, there are lots that you can do. Use what you have already got. And you will find that they are very similar to the ones that you find down at your local gym. They may not look the part. But, they do the job.

The risk of this way of cheating does not appear one to be worth taking. Not when there are many accessible, healthy alternatives that you can have. Please do take notice of the cons of diet pills. So, diet pills work? Probably not. At least not safely.

There Are Many Exercises And Foods For Us

There are many exercises and different foods available. You can learn more about which foods to eat and drink on this site to lose weight.

It leans on a person’s desire that they want to lose weight so badly. There is nothing grand or magical about diet pills. The dangerous side-effects caused by diet pills prove a general saying to be true.

“If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.”

  1. I believe that these so called diet pills have the same effect on the human body as speed (methamphetamine) does. They make you want to clean the house, get things done.

Methamphetamine, according to research I read somewhere, dampens the appetite and puts your mind into a more focussed state of wanting to be active, not sitting about watching the television.

They ain’t natural, they ain’t what nature intended, it’s always best to stay away from unnatural remedies and go the natural route with any aspect of your health. You are what you eat and that includes the diet pills and other junk we put into our bodies on a daily basis.

I like natural remedies any day of the week. In fact the only pharmaceuticals that pass my lips are paracetamol, for fever and pain such as headaches. I know that paracetamol if over used can cause liver problems. You don’t get stuff like that if you choose to naturally lose it!

Thanks for the great article on the dangers of diet pills.

    • You are correct sir, and the cons of diet pills are aplenty but, some people still ACTUALLY buy into them a behaviour I feel born from their desperation. Yes, I too only have the very odd paracetamol here and there.

  2. I agree that diet pills are not the answer. When I was a teen, I tried some Dexatrim before going to the fair. I thought I was going to get sick after riding the swings. People need to learn that you have to exercise and have a good diet of protein, dairy and different colours of fruits and veggies.

Even with supplements, some people think that you can take them and not improve your diet and exercise routine. Supplements are just like they sound. They supplement your diet and exercise.

    • Yes I agree with all that you say and yes they’re are meant to supplement your diet and exercise regime but for reasons known only to them they either cut down of neglect the exercise because “they are now taking supplements” As you quite rightly said this is wrong indeed, WRONG

  6. I say 70% diet, 30% exercise. If just diet alone you might shed a few puonds, but not many, but if you exercise alot, then eat what you want it pretty much cancels out the exercising.References :

    • Yes I would tend to agree but the exercise is CRUCIAL if one wants to lose alot of weight as diet alone won’t do it as you quite rightly said!

Nice site! I’m glad you addressed diet pills. They are not the answer. It’s all about behavior modification.

  8. Hello Simon. Thanks for sharing this article. I had a quick question: do you think taking omega 3 pills for lowering cholesterol is a good idea or is that also one of these sort of scams like diet pills?

    Reply
    • Omega-3 fatty acids, or fish oil, are polyunsaturated fats found in fish, fish oil, and in the form of supplements. They typically consist of a combination of polyunsaturated fatty acids that include DHA which is good cholesterol.) This is not bad for the heart. Personally i would get my omega 3 oils from eating fish mate. FACT
