    I am glad to know I am in the right place! I already own the treadmill you suggested! Woohoo! Do you really think home gym equipment is necessary to lose weight? I think it would definitely help benefit many people, but I know sometimes I am more motivated if I get myself to the gym instead of working out at home. I am a powerlifter and do have my own home gym but also belong to a powerlifting gym as well. I find that my workouts are better when I am at the gym due to the community aspect of working out

      However, going to the gym straight away when you are just starting your workout and weight loss attempt, well, it seems a little over-ambitious. Most people who are beginning their weight loss journey do not yet feel very confident about the way they look. In other words, their morale is low.

      So I think starting out at home is a great way to get in some kind of “Shape”, before being brave and heading off down to the gym.

    I have lost and gained more weight than an elephant weighs! The truth is almost all diets work. It up to the dieter to follow the diet plan. After many years of my weight going up and down .from 180 to 270 pounds. I found that the low carb diet worked best for me. I started off with the Adkins diet and converted it to something a little healthier. Eating more chicken and less beef helped. Also ate lean ground beef.
    I owned a treadmill and found it very easy to watch TV and use the treadmill. Kept my mind off the strenuous activity.
    Now I walk outside more and do different types of exercise.
    I like the working out at home.

    I have been wanting to get either a treadmill or an elliptical machine for my new house.
    We moved recently and I had to leave my old treadmill so I have not been working out like I should be.
    I find having fitness equipment about the house is very convenient especially when I am a mum running around with a multitude of things to do. It’s nice to go on the machine when I have a quick 20 mins.

    Thanks for all the suggestions with the rowing machines and the like but I think I will check out the treadmill as I am used to that. 🙂

    I’m really liking that Sunny Exercise bike man! I just started running again and sadly enough, my age is starting to kick in and my knees aren’t in the best shape. In need of an exercise bike or an elliptical of some sort. What do you think about that Sunny bike?

      Actually, to be perfectly honest, I did only choose the best for the site anyway so I think obviously that it is great, you will still get the cardio’ workout that you would from running John but, it is MUCH less of an impact workout! It comes with all of the features as the review suggests. Did you read my review on it mate?

      No, they are for any aged people! Seriously, it matters not what age you are when you are using them, just tat you really push yourself. Resulting in you losing weight and/or getting healthier. Please do not shy away from them just because you think they are for the young Jimmy, they are not.

      Yes very true, and boredom is a big factor in why we quit too soon. As for the Go Plus Exercise bike, yes it is the ideal piece of home gym fitness equipment to start you along the road of losing weight and becoming healthier. IT IS CHEAP too 😉

Lots of different options for rowing machines and exercise bikes, plus I really like how there are descriptions of each underneath, that is really helpful.       ha yea great Bri’ working out is so much easier to do, not only for reasons of time, but you are right, you need to feel comfortable and relaxed in your workout. If you are not, then you will most probably rush through the workout in your desperate attempt leave and find somewhere more at home (excuse the pun) This will then quite obviously mean that you will not attain the maximum benefit from it.

    Thanks for this post, Simon! I used to go to the gym, but kept giving up. Too much effort to schedule time from busy schedule, travel to the gym, change, workout, and then shower, and change, then to work or back home. And as mentioned, especially for people with busy work schedule, this is a great option.

    I have knee injury in the past. Now it’s generally all right as long as I don’t stress them. Is any of the treadmill ideal for being gentle on the knees while I do brisk walks on them, eventually building up to a run (hopefully)?

      Thank you for the comment Tim’ and yes they are all ok but in particular, the Nautilus T614 is supposed to be easy on the knees. And also yes to the fact that if you can be BOTHERED it is much more time efficient to workout at home, I agree with you.

    Hey Simon, I like this kit. Much prefer garage full of stuff to going to the gym. I think I like the exerpeutic 400 best. I like the idea of a breathable seat. I have moved away from treadmills as they jar my knees, but the exercise bikes are the way to go, Used to cycle, but you can’t get knocked off a static one in the garage. That fold up one looks the best option, as it takes up very small space when folded.

      You are very welcome Chris, and yes, the Exerpeutic 4000 is without question my favourite exercise bike. This is based on it having all of the features one would need.

      AS WELL as the fact that it is super comfortable too. It should make your exercising a total walk in the park. Obviously though, you still have to put in the KMs lol.

    Wow you cover alot of exercise equipment here and I guess it is up to the individual what they like. I am more a of at home exerciser as opposed to going to the gym. That why it is done in my own time. Gyms are just an added cost really however each to their own – some do like the social aspect as well. Me, I just want to get the weight off!!! And I have to exercise and eat well as well!

    One of these pieces of home gym fitness equipment, would be a good investment for me, because with two little ones, it is very hard for me to actually make it to the gym. In the last three months I have went ZERO times, although, each month the gym membership bill is coming out of my bank account.

    I think that the Marcy Upright exercise bike is more suited to my interests in toning strength in my legs, and I typically take a jog around the neighbourhood with the kiddos in the evenings (so the treadmill is out of the question for me)… Thank you for putting it all in one place for me to review.

Yea you see that is the only thing with gym memberships, as they are usually paid on an annual basis they ensure that they still get paid each month even when a person doesn’t even use it.

      That is why, in my opinion, it is a lot cheaper to workout at home. Plus as I’m sure you can imagine, it doesn’t have just it’s financial reward!

    Great information on all the things that are not available to have a home gym. For many reasons, the gym doesn’t get used as much after people join. Having home equipment makes a lot of sense. I would really like a Bow Flex to take care of 3 things at once.

    I presently have a Schwinn Airdyne, and a Bowflex Tread-climber. I’ve had then both for many years. I do wish that I had a Nautilus incline though. I have really liked the Tread-climber, but it’s actually a bit noisy when you use it. I just think an incline would be better. But the Schwinn Airdyne is fantastic. Maybe the only drawback is that you can’t adjust down the resistance enough for someone who isn’t very strong in their legs. I like all the review though. Thanks a lot. Which are your personal favorite? And you ever tried a Tread Climber?

    I have a friend who works twelve hours everyday. By the time he gets home, he is completely exhausted from his day’s job. As an end result, he never feels the motivation to head out to the gym to do exercise. He is overweight by around twenty pounds and he was thinking about getting a machine to work out with in his house. You have some nice stuff here. I am sure he would love the treadmills. He used to do a lot of hiking so walking is his thing when it comes to exercises. Thank you for the recommendation.

    I think we have all owned or know someone who has owned some gym equipment for their home. I certainly have and even still have some free weights at home.

    Very informative article you got here, I can tell you that I love rowing machines personally. One of my favorite activities I do for competition is rowing, Especially when working out on one at home for cardio and overall strength. This is a great finisher to add to any workout as well. once again, very informative! I need to get a personal one soon as the last one I had was borrowed, time for a new Christmas present.

I used to jog every morning in a nearby oval here, and perhaps, having one of these machines can be one of my prospects this coming year.

      haha ok and thank you Gomer Magtibay! I would personally use the exercise bike as it is for total beginners, and, although it does provide you wit a strength workout it is a slightly more gentle cardio (your breathing)workout than the other two. (Rowing machine and treadmill.)

      Although these two are good, you should ease into it, followed by the treadmill then the rowing machine to fine tune your fitness 🙂

    I thought your article was very informative. Anyone wanting to have a large selection to choose the best equipment for themselves, this is a great place to go. There is a couple grammar errors though. Yet overall I would recommend your site to anyone wanting to loose weight or get fit at home. I like that you put a lot of detail in each of the equipment.     I like rowing machines and think I would have to choose between the stamina air rower and the sunny health and fitness rowing machine. They’re both quite affordable and offer some really good features.

      Personally, I do not think that you can beat a good rowing machine R.C as they give you a full body workout. That said though the treadmill is also excellant and to a lesser extent the exercise bike, IMHO. But seeing as you already use a treadmill then…………..

    I like to work out really early mornings 4-5 am, so a trip to the gym that time of day would not be a joy. I like the treadmills more so than a bike. My concern is that I am small and lose weight rapidly. I am looking for a program or diet to gain a little weight (Being diabetic it’s not easy) most programs are design to lose weight.

        I am 5’9″ weight 153 lbs with any exercise I could drop 1-2 lbs a week that is not what I am looking to do. The exercise is to help keep my blood sugar low, so I don’t want to cut back on that.

    I like running outside but its always raining in the city I live in. I could get an indoor treadmill and/or a stationary bike. I looked at some of the prices and Im surprised at how affordable it is. for 3 hundred bucks I can have my own stationary bike, that is a amazing. beats going to the gym on a rainy cold day. good job with the article, keep writing.

    Hi Simon,

    You have a great variety of exercise machines here. As a former Personal Trainer, I can personally vouch for the rowers and the treadmills.

    I particularly like the Nautilus brand, as they are well constructed, sturdy and dependable. Both are excellent for doing High-Intensity Impact Training (HIIT), which is a great anaerobic method of elevating metabolism and resting heart rate.

      Personally, I would recommend that you get the Stamina Rowing Machine/Exercise Bike as it combines both an exercise bike and a rowing machine, so you get two workouts in one machine. It is great if you do not want to take up to much room.

    Excellent list Simon. I’ve meant to get my home gym fitness equipment for some time now, so it’s great that you gathered so many good ones in one spot. I’m lost as to where to start, though.

    I mean, it’s impractical just to get one of each, all at once. What should be my highest priority for my first machine? I do a lot of cardio, but a treadmill seems very simple. What do you think would cover the most bases?

      Well, first and predominantly you need to increase your cardiovascular system.All of the three apparatus are great cardio workouts. The exercise bike and treadmill focus mainly on the leg muscles although the exercise bike does have SOME other muscle enhancing benefits. I would suggest the rowing machine tho for that more all round toning and Cardio workout Mo’

    Hey Simon, you just made a whole list of beautiful home gym equipment. They are awesome and I like the fact that owning one or two these could actually help me to lose weight and get in shape from the convenience of my home.

    Just like you rightly mentioned that gym can be distracting. I will have to peruse the equipment again to know which one is affordable and also useful.

      No, thank you, Nnamdi, your comment is most appreciated. And yes I have listed some of the best apparatus money can buy IMO. There will, however, be several more added over the coming months.

      What I would recommend tho, if you can both save or initially afford it, is to go for the concept2 rowing machine as it is the daddy of apparatus as my review suggests.

    Wow, there are quite a few great looking pieces of home gym fitness equipment here. I am especially interested in the rowing machines. I always see people sweating like crazy on them but every time I get on it I have trouble getting a good workout.

    I turn the resistance up but at soon as the momentum starts going it feels like the resistance goes away. Is there a trick to using these correctly?

      I would assume that you are doing the rowing action incorrectly although I may be wrong. If you have turned the resistance right the way up it should be difficult to perform a handful of rowing actions unless you are a very accomplished rower?

    Hi Simon,
    This is a great collection. Good work!
    I exercise regularly but have been battling shin splints in my left leg recently, which has ruled out running, jogging, skipping and jumping for now. That’s caused some frustration as I look to something that can still get my heart-rate up but with less impact.

    I find I’m not a big fan of stationary bikes, and I’m so-so on the elliptical machine. But I’d never considered a combination of bike and rowing machine like the one you have listed above. Interesting! I’ll look into it further.
