Lovely But How Many Calories In A Tomato

A Slice Of Juicy Tomato

I will answer your question of how many calories in a tomato but first some other interesting facts. The tomato is a fantastic food source of many vitamins. These are vitamin A, C, D and B 12. The tomato actually contains 20% of your RDA (recommended daily allowance.) It is most often eaten in raw form in juices, snacks, salads, sauces, sandwiches or it can even be drank neat. Whichever you will be ingesting a good source of fibre and it contains 0% fat or cholesterol. Absolutely none. As I’m sure we can deduce this is a exceptionally good food for anyone who has chosen to go on a weight loss diet.

How Many Calories  In A Tomato Then?

A Slice Of Juicy Tomato

Another reason that it is great for ANY diet is that it is super low in calories coming in at just 18 – 24 p/100 grams.  This it going to mean, consuming several tomatoes in one fell swoop would hardly make a dents in your daily calorie allowance. (DCA) In fact compared to many other snack time favourites it contains practically no calories what so ever. In actual reality an entire cupful of cherry tomatoes would only amass a grand total of 27 calories. So you would curb any hunger you are feeling whilst doing minimal damage to your diet.

Tomatoes are a great food in themselves so it would seem to defeat the object of consuming them when they have been dressed up or seasoned or indeed both. So I implore you, If you are going to eat them leave the salad dressing sauces well alone as they will contain a lot of nasties which will over power the goodness (vitamins and minerals) that the tomato naturally provides you.

With the tomato being a great source of the aforementioned vitamins and minerals there just simply put ISN’T ENOUGH ROOM IN THEIR MAKE UP for them to contain anything that will haver a negative impact on your health only positive.

Try The Amazing Taste In The Sweet Tomato

Another amazing fact is that the oh so sweet cherry tomato is one that a lot of people prefer and this comes in too at around 18 calories p/100 grams. So once again the damage done to any diet really is not anything to bring you concern.

Surely the eating of what some people will say are a delicious  foods stuff with so many health benefits (help towards the prevention of cancers and strokes)  is a complete no brainer. It shouldn’t require a lot of thought.  And yet they can still be consumed in such small quantities as to have zero impact on our health, in fact just become totally redundant in our quest to lose weight. I say we should leverage these (use them) to obviously help towards the fight against the possible onset of major diseases

How many calories

The Not So Humble Tomato

We really should embrace the not so humble tomato and all of the advantages that it quite literally brings to the table. The lack of calories in them surely has to be the one of the unique advantages of this food over the rest of the sugary, salty, fatty, and bad for you preservative  filled and empty calorific foods we chooser to otherwise eat. This is especially true of the society of today as people are gradually becoming

Please remain aware that the calories in tomatoes are made up of essential fats, proteins and carbohydrates or else there wouldn’t be any, so that is that.

One of the worst ones containing tomatoes is in fact a table spoon of tomato ketchup as it contains 20 calories., and this is just Heinze organic ketchup. Others are slightly higher.

You see, once you have got your diet under control all that you need to have is the other half of the equation in order for your weight loss attempt to be a success. To what am I referring? Exercise of course. 1. Some good information here about the humble tomato. So many sauces and curries have an abundance of tomatoes at their base, but I agree with you, the best way to eat them is raw, especially if they have plenty of flavour.
Even so, I lived in Spain for 7 years and they do the best and biggest ‘beefsteak tomatoes’. We used to have them on toast for breakfast. The great thing about them is that they don’t disintegrate from cooking as so many varieties do and they keep their shape when fried.
After living in Spain, the tomatoes in this country (UK) seem to be lacking in flavour and I think it’s best to try and grow your own if you have the room in your garden. There are so many varieties to suit any spot in your garden from greenhouse to windowsill. Thanks for the info. Ches

    1. I couldn’t agree with you more because when I have visited the Spanish isles the tomatoes are definitely much more flavoursome than ours (I’m uk too) Whatever though they ARE delicious and very adaptable.

  2. Ah I love a tomato. The meatier the better. If that makes sense. If you have ever been to Spain, they do the best tomatoes in the world! Seriously!

I would never think of them as a snack, but its a really good idea. I had always imagined they were low in calories, as they are a fruit, but not THAT low. Up the list of priorities they go!

    1. haha thank you for you positive comment highly appreciated. Yes I never used to like them but when I read about their health benefits I switched over some rubbish for them and I grew to like them, I really did. They were AN ACQUIRED taste for me but I got there in the end!

  3. 1. haha yes Israel, I actually didn’t know that mate, thank you for enlightening me 🙂 Yes how many calories in a tomato is a very interesting post I feel and yes a lot of people do have an aversion to eating berries you are right mate.

  4. Tomatoes are awesome, especially when I’m trying to lose weight….and, when I’ve worked in hot countries. There’s so many vitamins and minerals in them, and they’re cheap too, what’s not to love?!
I’d have to say that tomatoes are probably about as great as melon- it’s so sweet and filling, but has very few calories in it. Again, great for weight loss, and to keep myself hydrated in hot weather.
Would you recommend any particular recipes for using tomatoes, but avoiding all the unnecessary calories from dressings etc?

    1. Ha yes tomatoes are absolutely great though I did always wonder how many calories were in a tomato. At first I was never all that keen on them but I think that they are an acquired taste and something that {I try and readily eat nowadays.
