  2. There is some great practical advice here. I could not agree more about not setting unrealistic goals. I think people who do radical diets are setting unattainable goals. Sure they will lose weight fast, but they will gain it back just as quickly, and then some, and how healthy can that be? Do you think it would be helpful to set weight loosing goals in small amounts like chunking a large task into little ones?

    1. yes that could work. Especially if you have a lot of weight to lose. You must remember too that you will hit somethingn called the plateau where you will lose barely anything as your body adapts to the changes going on internally. But stay focussed it will pass. As I alluded to this is where most people just give up, dont.

    Great article I really enjoyed reading it!
    I used to do exercises at the gym club before having children, Today , my daughter and I have decided to walk fast every single day for a minimum of 40 minutes.
    I hope it will burn the over weights. I would like to reinforce my muscles though . Do you have some good exercises to do at home?

  5. I workout at home some days and do it completely without any sort of gym equipment, by just using my own body weight against me. Do you have any exercises like that you would recommend? I do like going to the gym though because once you’re there it’s easier to not be so distracted from the rest of life.

    Enjoyed the article and the site- wish someone had written this years ago for me. Your first and second points are very true. – Determine how much weight you want to lose, and the time frame to lose it.

    About 18 months ago I decided I wanted to lose 45 pounds. I set my goal for 25 pounds in 6 months. I was able to lose the 15, but the next 10 stayed around. Due to my schedule, I am not really able to go to a gym (and probably wouldn’t even if I could). Due to some physical disabilities, only certain pieces of equipment beneficial for me to use.

    Having failed in my first goal, I set a new one of 20 pounds in the next 6 months. – I changed some eating habits (Tweaked – not drastic) and changed up my “activity” levels and was able to lose another 15 pounds.

    So I left my goal at 20 pounds over the next 6 months, however I was only able to lose 5 pounds. My current goal is still 15 pounds (this will put me 10 pounds under what I targeted for my “ideal weight”. So far I have only lost 5 pounds, but I am not discouraged – here is why.

    (1) The goal(s) I set are for the purpose of losing weight in a realistic yet challenging manner.

    (2) I want the weight to stay off – not a quick lose and then I put it back on.

    1. Indeed it does Scott an a very big congrats to you for actually striving towards losing your excess in the first place. What physical disabilities do you have if you don’t mind me asking? Could you not use a rowing machine, exercise bike or a treadmill?

    1. Well in terms of the two purely for hassle free effort I would choose the home exercises because it is a major MAJOR HASSLE getting me to any place never mind the gym.
