What Is The Best Exercise For Weight Loss

There are three main factors here to help you determine what is the best exercise for weight loss, for you.

  • How much weight do you wish to lose?
  • What kind of time limit have you given yourself?
  • Are you going to be working out at the gym or home?

Firstly you need to think about how much weight you want to lose. Give it some careful thought as the last thing you need is to set yourself an unrealistic goal and fall short of it because it will leave you feeling demoralized and frustrated.

As for a time limit,  you need to be realistic with that also or again if you fail to meet it, it will just compound (add to) the problem of not achieving your goal and leave you looking at the whole task in a negative light.

Home Or Gym?

You really must decide if this is a home mission or one that you will do down at your local gym. Even though the thought of it may not be very appealing as going to the gym can be a very daunting experience to start. I know it can.

Now, as for choosing what is the best exercise to lose weight, that would have to depend on the specific location of your excess. If, and in most cases, it is a general weight issue. Then I can most certainly provide you with some advice on how to shed the lbs.

So, If you choose to work out at home, then you will have to make sure that other things do not become a distraction for you. Set aside some, preferably a lot of time and commit to it.

Don’t Have Any Distractions From Your Weight Loss

Let nothing deter you from this path. After all, it is the weight you want to lose. So you have to be tough on yourself to achieve that weight loss target you have.

If on the other hand you have decided going to the gym is your preferred method to this weight loss challenge you have set yourself, then please make sure your excuses for not showing up are ZERO.

Weight loss attempts require consistency. There is no point in turning up three days in a row then not going for the rest of the week. No point at all.

Apparatus You Will Require In The Home

As I have stipulated before if it is the home workouts you have opted for, you are preferably going to need three things. Listed below are some apparatus I recommend in $.

  • You will also definitely need to invest in some free weights. These are an absolute must-have.
  • The second item and something to accompany your weight is a workout bench. It is a must-have.
  • Whichever method you choose to do, know this. There will be robust trials ahead of you. You must resist the temptation to throw in the proverbial towel and oppose the massive temptation to revert to your old way of eating.
  • Remain focussed. It is a prerequisite. You should already be in that positive frame of mind before you even start this campaign. Because otherwise, you are only setting yourself up for failure. Because then, the question “What is the best exercise for weight loss” will not matter.

    1. That is great and yh I replied to your previous comment. Thanks so much for your positive opinion of my post what is the best exercise for weight loss for you it is really kind of you and to leave such a good remark about the site as a whole 🙂

  2. There is some great practical advice here. I could not agree more about not setting unrealistic goals. I think people who do radical diets are setting unattainable goals. Sure they will lose weight fast, but they will gain it back just as quickly, and then some, and how healthy can that be? Do you think it would be helpful to set weight loosing goals in small amounts like chunking a large task into little ones?

    1. yes that could work. Especially if you have a lot of weight to lose. You must remember too that you will hit somethingn called the plateau where you will lose barely anything as your body adapts to the changes going on internally. But stay focussed it will pass. As I alluded to this is where most people just give up, dont.

  3. Hello there!
I am really looking into shedding some inches after the summer but my hectic schedule doesn’t allow frequent visits to the gym. Finding some good exercises to do at home would be ideal. Thank you so much for sharing this info!
Very helpful! I will be starting my workout routine soon and let you know how it’s going!

    1. yh please do and let me know your starting and then when you write your current weight 🙂 These exercises that I list are proven and they will most definitely work and maybe if finances allow you might wanna think about purchasing an exercise bike, treadmill or rowing machine to coincide with your diet 🙂

  4. Hi Simon,
Great article I really enjoyed reading it!
I used to do exercises at the gym club before having children, Today , my daughter and I have decided to walk fast every single day for a minimum of 40 minutes.
I hope it will burn the over weights. I would like to reinforce my muscles though . Do you have some good exercises to do at home?
Thank you for this awesome and helpful blog

  5. I workout at home some days and do it completely without any sort of gym equipment, by just using my own body weight against me. Do you have any exercises like that you would recommend? I do like going to the gym though because once you’re there it’s easier to not be so distracted from the rest of life.

    1. These are some that you could do to get a flatter tummy. https://naturallyloseit.org/you-can-get-abs-in-a-month-from-undefined-to-a-flat-6-pack-stomach They can be done too with out the aid of a gym and where is it first that you are concentrating on. I need to know that to begin with 🙂 ? You are kind of correct in you statement about the distractions however it is not what I would call private and then there is the membership cost and the cost of travelling there and back. It all adds up to a fair amount and it needs to be paid in order for you to continue. Personally I would rather do it for free at home.https://naturallyloseit.org/home-exercises-to-lose-weight-what-you-should-do Are you in the US or UK?

  6. Simon,

Enjoyed the article and the site- wish someone had written this years ago for me. Your first and second points are very true. – Determine how much weight you want to lose, and the time frame to lose it.

About 18 months ago I decided I wanted to lose 45 pounds. I set my goal for 25 pounds in 6 months. I was able to lose the 15, but the next 10 stayed around. Due to my schedule, I am not really able to go to a gym (and probably wouldn’t even if I could). Due to some physical disabilities, only certain pieces of equipment beneficial for me to use.

Having failed in my first goal, I set a new one of 20 pounds in the next 6 months. – I changed some eating habits (Tweaked – not drastic) and changed up my “activity” levels and was able to lose another 15 pounds.

So I left my goal at 20 pounds over the next 6 months, however I was only able to lose 5 pounds. My current goal is still 15 pounds (this will put me 10 pounds under what I targeted for my “ideal weight”. So far I have only lost 5 pounds, but I am not discouraged – here is why.

    (1) The goal(s) I set are for the purpose of losing weight in a realistic yet challenging manner.

    (2) I want the weight to stay off – not a quick lose and then I put it back on.

Keep up the work Simon. Hope my story helps. I will be back.

    Scott

    1. Indeed it does Scott an a very big congrats to you for actually striving towards losing your excess in the first place. What physical disabilities do you have if you don’t mind me asking? Could you not use a rowing machine, exercise bike or a treadmill?

  7. I love how you’ve broken down weight loss to be either from the home or at the gym.

I can totally see pros and cons for both but I like how you have put it down simply for others to decide for themselves what would work best for them. I also appreciate the links you provide of necessary workout equipment – that was very helpful!

Here’s a question for you: As far as exercise is concerned, would you choose the gym or home and why?

    1. Well in terms of the two purely for hassle free effort I would choose the home exercises because it is a major MAJOR HASSLE getting me to any place never mind the gym.
